Today while I was driving my 2002 Acura RSX-Base, going @ 40mph all of a sudden everything just completely stopped functioning, the engine turned off, the brakes locked, and the steering wheel locked. I checked the battery and it wasn't the issue.
I had a mechanic take a look at it, and he says it's likely that the (timing belt) inside of the engine itself went bad. Does anyone else have any ideas what It might be ?
Sounds like a electrical short to me. Did it start back up? Could be caused by a ton of things, different points in the electric.
If you loose electric your engine is going to immediately shut down killing the power steering and brakes.
A mechanical failure usually comes with noises, sputtering, and a literal slow breakdown of the engine process.
I had this happen a few times on my rsx a while back. It turned out to be nasty case of corrosion on the negative battery terminal. I replaced it and it never happened again.
-a faulty O2 sensor can also cause your car's ECU to do this. Sends the car into safety mode. If you've had a check engine light before the breakdown, that might be it.
