Air Cooled Ceramic

My house feels like an incubator in the middle of the day....help!!!?
I live in the tropics.
We bought our house just over a year ago. The sun happens to directly hit it at any time of the day. Canopies installed in the windows are not much help. The walls feel really warm even with air conditioning installed.
Can't afford to install airconditioning system on all the rooms because of the very expensive electricity bills..
We've installed floating floors instead of ceramic tiles because they are much easier on the legs especially for my kids. I noticed that, somehow, they contribute to the warm feelings..
The kitchen, on the other hand, is a lot cooler (probably because it is floored with ceramic tiles?).
Any good ideas about keeping the temperature in the rooms lower? They will be much appreciated.
The trees we planted outside to hopefully help keep the sunlight out are still very young and not tall enough.
What I guess is that your house is not properly ventilated for the free flow of the fresh air and is also not adjoining with other houses by the sides of your house. In that case you may also have to face extreme cold conditions in winter season also, your house being nude from all the sides.
You may have to spare some money to have some permanent solution, than to take shelter of temporary solution by expensive airconditioning, to get respite from the heat. Not only that you may also get respite from the extreme cold conditions, if the situation of your house is such, as I guessed.
The outside rooms may be fitted with exhaust fans if not properly ventilated to exhaust the hot air. Otherwise construct the air chimneys out of your non-ventilated rooms to go at the roof top to make a passage for the circulation of the air. Secondly, the roof may need some modifications by extra masonary work. You may have to spread some wild tall bushes or dry leaves or wood splinters (up to about 2 to 3" level)on the roof top added with a 6" layer of mud prepared from earth powder over that and then fitting with brick tiles over that. This may definitely provide a permanent solution for heat resistance from the roof top. If you can afford, the walls of the outside rooms, which are exposed to sun, should also be covered with thermocol and wood panelling.
All this may give you a one time permnent solution of your problems and ample respite not only from the heat but also from the cold of the winter season.
