I have a 68 Chevy Impala Coupe with truck heads on a 350 4 main bolt block. The engine was rebuilt. I will be honest, it runs like a 92 Honda Civic
My plan in the next 2 weeks is the rebuild the rear end (10 Bolt) with 3.73 Richmond gear, Adding a 2400 B&M Stall, A Summit Cam (SUM-K1103) and some used Vortec Heads. Have a brand new Flowmaster exhaust kit and Small Block Chevy Ceramic Coated Block Hugger Headers that wil be added with everything else. It has a Holley 750 Car which I will change to a 600 soon but now, my check books exploding !!
Also I'm getting the Vortec heads for $300, a good deal for used heads. What will I need to rebuild them or would it just make more since to buy new ones for $500?

The combustion chamber volume is 64cc. Intake valves are 1.94 and the exhaust is 1.50
You'd be looking at about $135 for springs, locks, retainers, and seals. A three angle valve job is usually around $80, hot tank is probably another $30, so you may have a little more money in the used set, but you will also have better springs. The stock springs in the vortec heads coil bind at around .470" lift. Since they are going to the machine shop anyway, you may want have the rocker stud bosses milled and tapped for screw in studs and guide plates, around another $150 including machine work and parts. You should see a pretty major increase in h.p. and torque from just the head and cam swap.
