I own a shop, and think this; You must have a metal line, because this is too much vacuum to run hose that far. It will collapse on you, and the tranny won't shift right. First you want to tap directly into the intake, or under the carburetor if there is a provision for this, but most carburetors doesn't have what you will need. The line that goes to the brake booster is a good example of how its directly tapped into the intake. Don't use this line to tap into though, as this could cause brake failure. Any parts store has bulk brake line in any size you need if you don't have the factory line made for the job. If you look at the factory line it gets smaller where it goes into the intake, and the vacuum modulator. It is designed this way to get direct vacuum, and the hose is just there to hold it together, and keep it from leaking. The end of the line should push up inside the modulator, and the hose slides over it to hold it in place. The same applies to the intake portion of the line. You can go to a junkyard and get a L shapped fittings from an older vehicle thats made for this line. It should go into the intake just behind the carburetor. Most aftermarket intakes doesn't have a provision for this fitting, and must be drilled & tapped for pipe threads in the proper location. If you don't have the proper tools and/or knowledge to install this line, then go to a machine shop, and get them to put the hole in the intake for you. The size of the hole is critical, and even the depth of the threads are too in order for the fittings to not bottom out without leaking. It takes a special size drill bit, and the proper tap to thread this fitting into the intake, so its best left to a professional, as you don't want to ruin your engine from metal getting into it from drilling & tapping the threads. It's best to remove the carburetor, and place a strong magnet on the under side to catch all the debris. As I said; You must have this line installed properly, and take into account for a low vacuum situation if the engine has a high lift cam in it, as this will call for a different than stock vacuum modulator. One that runs off lower vacuum than normal, or at least one thats adjustable, and can be dialed in to work with your setup.
