I have a 2001 ford escape 3.0 v6, my check engine light came on and I heard a hissing sound coming from the engine compartment. I checked and I found a peice of melted plastic plugged in near the egr vave with two small tubes blowing hot air/exhaust into the engine compartment. I called ford with the part number frm the burnt piece of plastic and they told me it was the egr pressure sensor i bought one and they said to instal it with regular rubber fuel line, I did but the hose and sensor melted away. How do I install it and keep it from melting the hose and the part? could there be something else wrng that is making it hot enough to melt away I dont see how becuase the tubes are directly connect tot a tube that is connected to the exhaust manifold. lease help.
I wonder who told you to use fuel line... It definitely wasn't Ford itself.
The hoses are a special rubber hose made to withstand the high temperatures and the Ford base number is 9p761
The sensor, even though it's made of plastic, is actually a high temperature plastic (base number 9j460)
I've been wrenching on them for years and have only seen about 2 if that melted in someway. Usually the hoses bake on the sensor where you can't get it off.
If you use the right hose, it should keep it up high enough not to melt it... Yours was just a defective one.
