the guy had repl heads,manifolds,etc,then eng blew up after 23 hours use. he told us that the exhaust baffles that keep sea water from backwashing into exhaust disintegrated & blew out of exhaust allowing water into exhaust & causing eng to lock up. we dont believe they just vanished,but that he forgot to put them back in after repair. is it possible that they just disintegrated?
Jim is correct. I do however disagree that a service tech wouldn't check this when replacing manifolds. If I know that the engine has overheated, or there is any indication that the exhaust system is a problem, I would take a look. I would not simply figure that they had disappeared. I've fished too many remains out to think that. At high speeds, a lot of water has to pass out of the exhaust, and a blockage can be critical. Good Luck!
