Emission Systems And Parts

I have a 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd. Recently (3/07) the battery was replaced (due to not driving it in the winter). Since then, the car has not been "driven" since 9/07. I went to start it up yesterday, but everything seemed dead. After a jump, the car finally started but the engine sounded very loud and the exhaust was thick. Eventually it settled down and I took it for a quick trip (3-4 minutes). After, I put the car in park and let it sit for a few minutes. Upon my return I put the car in drive and the engine and all electrical systems seemed to shut off for a moment, but the came back. The process repeated when I put the car in reverse. Finally, I turned the car off and attempted to start it a few minutes later – wouldn’t start again (lights inside were completely off). I tried to jump it again but nothing. When I turned the key the lights dimmed and I would hear it try to slowly turn over. What do you think?
