i have a 95 nissan maxima that i have ran castrol gtx high milege last 80k miles and never had a problem. well im at 295k miles and motor runs great strong and no oil leaks and doesn't burn a drop of oil per oil change.
well i put mobil 1 full synthetic in with mobil 1 oil filter and now when motor is cold i hear one my lifters tapping loud when motor is cold goes away after 2 minutes of idling.
You might try changing just the oil filter by switching to an OEM Nissan, Purolator Gold or Wix. Possibly the anti drain-back valve in the Mobil filter isn't sealing properly which will cause cam follower or lifter noise at start-up. If the filter is in a vertical position, fill it with Mobil1 before screwing it back on the engine. This prevents momentary dry start-up.
Mobil1 5W-30 is a very high detergent motor oil. It's going to take a while to clean-up the mess from using high mileage Castrol. You did realize the one and only thing high mileage oil does is slow down or stop very small oil leaks. If your car wasn't leaking oil there was no need to be spending money on high mileage oil. If it appears dark brown or black inside the valve covers it will take time for Mobil1 to scour out the inside of the motor. The action of the dertegent in Mobil1 may have dislodged some garbage inside the crankcase which could make a lifter stick.
I would stay with Mobil1 but short-change it a couple of times @ 4,000 miles in hopes the lifter will quiet down. The cool thing about Toyota's is they don't have troublesome hydraulic valve lifters.
