Picked up a Katana for a grand the other day and it ran fine. I bought it knowing there would be some things wrong with it. A main problem was the exhaust pipe was pinched right in front of the muffler when the previous owner put it down. I figured it would be cheaper to just buy an aftermarket exhaust after looking at the prices of OEM parts. But of course I had to cut the mufflers off just for the sake of hearing what it would sound like with straight pipes since im already getting a new exhaust. Anyways I started it up and it was running if I gave it enough throttle but would die in idle so I figured i would just adjust the idle screw to make it idle at a higher RPM. Well I did that and now it wont start period. Any ideas haha?
Sounds like it was starving for fuel. Are you sure it was the idle screw you turned or the air/fuel mixture screw? If you turned the a/f screw then you should start by putting the screw back where it was. If you cannot remember where it was screw it in all of the way until it LIGHTLY seats then back it out one and a half turns out. Now, pull out a spark plug and see if you have spark while cranking it. If you do, replace the fuel filter and the fuel with a fresh filter and new gas. Old gas can waste a lot of your time. Make sure you have gas flowing strong to the carbs/fuel rail by disconnecting the fuel line on the engine side and have it flow in to a can. You might have to drain the carbs by loosening the screw or cap at the bottom of the bowls. A strong motor, clean fresh fuel and a good spark should be all you need to get that puppy purring.
