I'm buying a car. and im looking into more sporty cars. possibly even convertible. I'm crazy about Z4 and ive found a 2007 model which fits my budget... but the only thing holding me back is not being sure if i can survive the winter. this is going to be my primary car. i could leave it in the garage for 1 mounth if it gets really bad but thats it.
I livce in Toronto btw. and im also considering 2010 Chevy camarao, 2011 Ford msutang, BMW 3series, and Lexus IS250. im a big BMW fan. If u have experienced driving a Z4 in winter i'd really appreciate your opinion.
Although it is rear wheel drive, it's not crazy horsepower (215 hp) or torque (185 ft-lb). 30 years ago, rear wheel drive and lots of horsepower was all there was. So sure it's possible to drive in snow, particularly with good tires. Go slow though, no rapid starts or stops.
If you have to drive in snow a lot though, there are clearly better choices. Both a BMW 3 series and the Lexus IS250 are available in All Wheel Drive, both great in bad weather.
Get the Z4 if you have to have it and are prepared to "make due" in bad weather. Get an IS250 or 3 series if you don't want to have to worry about the weather or putting your car in the ditch.
I'd steer clear of the rear wheel drive muscle cars (Camaro, Mustang GT), those are less manageable in tough weather.
