I turned on my car and received error code 12 and error code 25 today. 12 is not a big issue, as it just means the computer needs reset. But 25 means that "Idle air control motor circuits, target idle not reached (+/- 200),vacuum leak found." How would I locate the Idle Air Control to inspect and/or replace it, and how do I look for a vacuum leak? Thank you!
The idle air control motor is on the throttle body. This where the throttle cable connects to the engine. The idle air control should be opposite the throttle cable. There will be a wire harness connected to it. You can replace it by unplugging it and removing a few screws.
The idle air control is what adjusts the amount of air going into the engine at idle and controls idle speed. You may have a vacuum leak, but replacing the idle air control should fix it.
You can check for a vacuum leak by spraying carburetor cleaner on vacuum hoses and around the throttle body and where the intake manifold bolts to the head. If the engine speed picks up where you are spraying, you have found the vacuum leak.
