I think I would. 425 lb/ft of torque is fairly phenomenal, and it gets 36 mpg on the highway as well. I find these figures incredible.
But, while it may be as fast as the 335i, it won't give the same great exhaust note that I love. It is also more expensive, and because a diesel engine is made out of steel, it weighs more, and the handling will be compromised.
The D - no doubt with the advances of cleaner diesels that are on the market it will be a better car for the long haul. Also with a few fairly inexpensive upgrades it will be much faster than the gas version. Also I believe that the new BMW's are some of the best cars on the market today - I am in the market for a 335D as well. Go drive one and see if the handling is all that different at normal speeds - you probably wont notice until you get above 85mph and living in the city I hardly ever get up there.
