1988 Mercury Grand Marquis transmission problems!!!!?
this past saturday morning, on the hwy, i noticed that my overdrive ( 4th gear ) was slipping drastically.i towed the car home, and topped up the tranny fluid because apparently some had come out from the bellhouse area where it joins with the motor. i took it out for a test run, driving in 3 speed mode ( D ) , because i knew that overdrive is slipping, and noticed that the car has no torque. its sorta like driving an oversized toyota prius, lol. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear shift ok. i figure there is something wrong with the torque converter. how long do you think the tranny will last in this condistion just driving around town?
it soundslike the front seal is leeking too me but you can drain the fluid put in new filter and add lucas tranni fix it might come back to life keep an eye on fluid level
