I'm thinking about installing a Borla system to my '08 SAAB 9 5 with the four cylinder engine (I'm not a tuner, I've just gotten too sweet a deal on a decent system to resist) and wonder if it would tend to the occasional issue of turbo lag on my wagon or not? I know that the computer has more to do with performance than anything else and would like to know whether or not it would fix the issue or if a simple chip replacement would be more pragmatic. It's only an issue in high speed passing, though.
You may get small performance gains from the larger free flowing exhaust, but that doesn't really play a real factor in the boost rate. The impeller design inside the turbo and the piping room that it has to compress into is the main cause of your boost lag. The only real way to reduce it is to get an aftermarket turbo or smaller piping, but there's no real reason to change the piping.
